Required Information for a Preliminary Evaluation
- The dimensions of the rug or tapestry
- A clear photo of the front (face)
- A photo of the main design, inscriptions, signatures, or dates
- A photo of the back with a measuring tape placed parallel to the border (for knot count)
- The exact measurements of the knotted pile area (excluding fringes)
- A measurement of the rug’s thickness
Photographing the Rug for Online Evaluation
For possible online publication, an up-to-date photo of the entire rug is also required.
This image should be taken from above, standing on a stool or small ladder, positioned at the centre of the rug’s length. The rug must be laid flat on the floor, and the camera should be aimed at the centre to ensure the entire piece is visible.
A full photo of the back is also recommended.
Submission Guidelines
- Send a separate email for each item
- Clearly state the dimensions, origin (if known), and condition
- Attach 2–3 clear, lightweight images (JPG format preferred)
Additional Images for Full Appraisal
Once the quotation is accepted and payment is completed, additional images will be required:
- A photo of one quarter of the rug (corner detail)
- The central medallion or main motif
- A detailed image of the border
- Any woven signatures or inscriptions
Rare or Complex Pieces
For particularly rare or difficult-to-identify rugs, further details may be required:
- A precise measurement of the rug’s thickness
- A photo showing the type of knot, obtained by gently folding the rug at an angle
Note: This operation must be carried out with extreme care, especially for antique rugs, to avoid damaging the structure.
Final Evaluation
If the submitted images confirm that the item is hand-knotted and suitable for appraisal, you will be informed about the cost of the professional evaluation.
